Atlantis is a head scratcher for me. I want to like it. The opening show last year had an intriguing premise...that I thought I would grow to love. I don't hate it. It has its good moments. But the show IMO has devolved into a sort of predictable medieval formula with weird character twists. Hercules for example is just a fat, cowardly slob. Without a hint of any "Godly" gifts. He is a lovable loser. Pythagoras is just a "wussie" lock picker who has an occasional decent idea. Again...nothing special. Jason is a modernist trapped in an ancient world. Whoopee! He should know…

For years Windows Media Center has populated channel 169 in my guide with Military History, even though I could find zero evidence of it on Comcast's website. I recently wrote to Zap2It, the company who provideds WMC with guide data, and told them there must be a mistake, that Comcast in my area didn't offer the channel. They actually replied saying that they followed up and they do indeed offer it. So a call to Comcast and a knowledgable rep told me that it is indeed part of the Sports and Entertainment package (though it seems to be the only non-sport channel). Just thought I'd pass around…

Has its moments, and while watching it's hard not to think of the CIA woman protagonist in the popular Showtime miniseries, "Homeland." . Lots of combat fighting in the mid-East, head-severings, etc., written into the pilot to keep things moving. -- John

  • Prices for AMD's powerful Radeon R9 295X2 graphics card plunge another $200

    23 Nov 2014 | 1:41 pm
The GPU wars between AMD and Nvidia are heating up, and as a result, prices are coming down. If Newegg listings are any indication, AMD has slashed prices for its top-of-the-line Radeon R9 295X2 graphics card to around $800.  To put that into context, the R9 295X2, which features two graphics processors and 8GB of GDDR5 memory, cost $1500 when it launched earlier this year. Once Nvidia released its $550 GeForce GTX 980—the most powerful single-GPU graphics card we’ve seen—AMD responded by slashing its prices. AMD dropped the R9 295X2 dropped to the $1000 range, and the R9 290X to…

Last year, NBC announced it would be home to a new show written and produced by Tina Fey (30 Rock, SNL) and starring Ellie Kemper (The Office), but now that show's going straight to Netflix. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt will premiere across all of Netflix's territories in March with its 13-episode first season, and Netflix has already signed it up for a second. According to NBC exec Rob Greenblatt, the move is a result of the network's "very drama-heavy mid-season schedule", and he calls Netflix's two-season pickup an "instant win-win for everyone."
