I was really jealous with my friend since he's able to watch it in HD(Uverse). There is no U-verse in our area since the village have a contract with Comcast for 10 friggin years. I was just told about this. So, is the analog ppv thing really like that in Comcast? Thanks.

  • Amazon Now Streams HD Movies and Shows

Amazon has added high-def content to its Internet streaming service. It's a me-too move, with the retailer joining Apple, Vudu, Netflix and other streaming services that offer HD titles. Also like the others, Amazon's HD can't match the stunning picture of a Blu-ray disk -- or even an over-the-air HD broadcast. I tried the Amazon service and the high-def image is better than what Amazon and others offer in the lower standard-definition. But to my eyes, the high-def version is more like an upscaled DVD than true HD.
  • Audio: Cool Advances in HDTVs

Electronics shows these days are filled with flat-panel screens, and until this year somebody always had the bragging rights for the new champion in square inches. Maybe it's the economy, or maybe sizes have topped out: This year the emphasis is on new features and abilities. Cool Advances in HDTV Tech Subscribe to Tech Trends by David LaGesse I spoke this weekend with WTOP about some of the more interesting advances, including greener panels that cut energy use in half. We also talked about the latest effort to combine television and the Internet in sets that arrive with the ability to…
  • 5 Cool Advances in HDTV Technology

The days of ever-larger flat panels took a pause at this year's unveiling of new HDTVs. The emphasis instead was on new capabilities, some gimmicky but many that can cement the device's central role in American homes. Here are the five leading advances in this year's televisions:
  • Cheaper Plasma TVs Getting More Energy Efficient, Too

While there are fewer companies making plasma TVs, the flat panels won't roll over and die for LCDs. I usually prefer the look of a plasma's picture with its richer colors and blacks. They also still bring the best bang for the buck, which helps explain why plasmas were the one segment that actually shipped more TVs in the fourth quarter than a year earlier. Now plasmas promise a jump in energy efficiency that could rob LCDs of a key advantage. Samsung and Panasonic have said they'll deliver plasma models that cut energy use by nearly half. That would put them in the range of the energy that…
  • TV Makers Flee Shrinking Market

Shakeup in the TV world: Pioneer getting out altogether, and Vizio is dropping its plasma lines in favor of LCDs. Consolidation is to be expected after a drop in TV sales during the fourth quarter. Shipments of TV sets in North America fell 7 percent compared to a year earlier, according to preliminary data from DisplaySearch. Vizio is abandoning the end of the market that is growing as pocketbooks tighten. Because they tend to be cheaper than LCDs, plasmas were the only segment to grow in shipments over the fourth quarter of 2007.

    Alfred
    3 Nov 2009 | 5:00 am
It seems a little like a gasoline company buying General Motors, but it looks like the rumors about Comcast wanting to buy NBC Universal have some fire behind the smoke. In an article published Sunday by the New York Times, General Electric may be on the verge of reaching a deal with Comcast. According to the article, Comcast would end up with 51% of the company while GE would retain 49%. This would require that Vivendi, a French corporation, would have to sell its existing 20% share. And even if all the details can be hammered out, the deal still would require government approval.

    28 Oct 2009 | 7:08 am
OSRAM Opto Semiconductors has set an important milestone in developing OLED technology. The OLED prototypes that OSRAM has developed as part of a research project are large transparent light sources only a few hundred micrometers thick. Thanks to new technology these organic light emitting diodes do not need separate encapsulation and can be made incredibly thin in any layout. The transparent test samples have a luminous area of 210 cm² and are already showing the enormous potential of OLED light sources. 7 Nov 2009 | 2:03 am
Filed under: CableConsider another shot fired in the HD VOD wars, now Comcast is claiming "most same day VOD & DVD releases" for the month of November. Angels & Demons, Bruno, The Ugly Truth and others are among those hitting the VOD slate the same day they hit shelves, while movies like the Transformers and Ice Age sequels make their delayed appearance this month as well. Still, while providers slap box over ad campaigns, until the menus get simpler to navigate and prices come down to Redbox-competitive levels, who has more VOD and when just isn't that big of a deal to us.Comcast…

Filed under: Blu-ray The egg had to come before the chicken right? Well either way, one of 'em came first and in the case of the latest Blu-ray feature, Managed Copy enabled Blu-ray Discs will come before the hardware. Less than five months since AACS was finalized and the details of Managed Copy were revealed and so far we've only seen one demo and not a single product announcement. This doesn't surprise us, but AACS-LA is apparently surprised because although all Blu-ray Discs sold after December 4th have no choice but to allow at least one copy to be made, the requirement to label the…

  • REVIEWS: Toshiba Regza 55SV685DB television

    Jamie Carter
    3 Nov 2009 | 1:30 am
Flawed genius A brand usually found in the lower echelons of the flatscreen TV market, Toshiba is making a bid for the big time with this huge LED screen. The trouble is, the 55SV685DB's very large price heaps on the pressure; is it much better than a 50-inch plasma, which now go for under ?1,000? However unlikely that might seem, Toshiba has strived to make the 55SV685DB seem good value by packing in some new features. The first, and most important by far, is LED backlighting. The 55SV685DB uses perhaps the most comprehensive form of the new tech, called "local dimming" or "full LED" by some…

If buying the latest slim HDTV is what you want along with superb features, then this HDTV is your best bet. Available with a built-in tuner and being just 1.2” in depth makes it an instant choice.
